A method for Manufacturing a Low Cost Cheese Substitute for Catering Purposes – The first Successful Commercialization of UWU
Department of Animal science could invent a new cheese product targeting catering industry in Sri Lanka. Cheese is one of the expensive ingredients used widely in catering industry. High price of cheese increases the price of the end product. Ms. M.K. Ranasinghe, Ms. K.M. Siriwardena and Ms. W.M.A.A. Kulasinghe invented a low cost cheese substitute that can support to reduce the cost of cheese and ultimately the cost of the end product. This product can be used in many applications such as pastry and bakery industry, catering industry and even it can be used as a cheese spread. This invention was patented at National Intellectual Property Office under the patent number LK/P/20916. UBL Cell of UWU could commercialize this product by signing a licence agreement with Wellassa Dairies, a dairy manufacturing company located in Badulla district.
