University Business Linkage Cell of Uva Wellassa University was able to sign the first license agreement with Thanuki Products for commercializing an innovative UWU product of “Gluten-free Finger Food for Toddlers”. Transfer of the IP through the non-exclusive license agreement was officially held on 10th November 2021 at Vice Chancellor’s office of the University.
The licensed product was a ready-to-eat biscuit, specially designed for toddlers over 1 year old. This product is a cereal-based product consisting locally available cereals and pulses. Thus, it is gluten-free and rich in nutritional properties, particularly protein and dietary fiber. Also, this technology was capable to secure Sri Lanka patent rights (Patent No: LK/P/2096). Ms. M. K. Ranasinghe, Ms. W.M.A.A. Kulasinghe, and Ms. A. M. O. Kanchanamala were the inventors of this technology.
The license agreement will last for 20 years and University will receive royalty in quarterly basis.
